For my research paper I wrote about how Wildlife Refuges are being criticized and in spite of the criticism, the federal Wildlife Refuge system has been enhancing biodiversity in the United States by increasing the total size of wilderness areas, protecting wildlife habitats of endangered species, and promoting the reintroduction of different plant and animal species. While writing this paper I learned that in order for our society to grow we need biodiversity to be enhanced, I also learned that there are two techniques used to preserve species which are "in situ" and "ex situ" conservation (in situ conservation means saving a species in its existing location while ex situ conservation occurs in seed banks, zoos, botanical gardens, etc). Another thing I have learned is that scientists estimate there are a million or more species on Earth, and each plant or animal may have value yet undiscovered which means the extinction of a species could possibly mean the loss of a cure for cancer, a new antibiotic drug, or a disease resistant strain of wheat or rice.
My research paper connects with my product because it talks about how Wildlife Refuges and scientists are helping out the animals and when I look at these animals while volunteering at the Refuge and think about how their not able to go back into the wild due to their homes being taken from them cause of a fire, or the tearing down of trees for our homes to be built it makes me wanna help them as well like the Wildlife Refuges around the world are.
